Stepping Back to Move Forward: My Creative Hiatus and Vision

“The Warden of Thoughts” 2024 - Nikon Z7II with Lensbaby Trio 28

As 2024 winds down, I find myself reflecting on the past year and thinking about what 2025 might bring. Late 2023 brought its fair share of challenges, including a lingering creative block that has improved but hasn’t fully let go. This year, my time behind the camera was limited, and as I look ahead, I’m starting to see 2025 as an opportunity—a chance to refocus, recharge, and rediscover my creative passion.

This realization came into sharper focus after a thoughtful conversation over coffee with a good friend and former coworker. That chat reminded me that 2025 needs to be a year for me and my creative journey. Over the past few years, I’ve poured my energy into projects like Late Night Exposures and Coffee and Clicks. While these have been meaningful ventures, they’ve also taken a toll. Attendance at Coffee and Clicks has dwindled, and I suspect my lack of motivation to fight the ever-shifting Facebook algorithm is partly to blame.

So, what’s next? I’ve decided to take a one-year hiatus from both Coffee and Clicks and Late Night Exposures. My hope is that by stepping back, these projects will return stronger and more rewarding in 2026. In the meantime, I’m shifting my focus inward.

One exciting plan for 2025 is meeting with my good friend every Saturday morning for deeper, more philosophical discussions about photography and creative projects. These conversations will allow me to explore art beyond gear talk—something I’ve grown weary of unless it serves a clear, thoughtful purpose. I’m also planning to dedicate my energy to one or two meaningful projects, though their exact nature is still taking shape.

Additionally, I’ll continue offering photography lessons and answering your questions. While lessons may remain slow in 2025, I’m always here to help when you need guidance. My primary focus, however, will be on rekindling my creative passion. Over time, I’ve realized that putting too much emphasis on the business side of photography and the expectations of others has dulled my joy for the art itself.

This break is about finding that joy again, rediscovering why I fell in love with photography in the first place. It’s about creating for myself, experimenting with new ideas, and sharing more “unique” work—whatever that might look like as it unfolds.

I appreciate your understanding and support as I take this step back. My goal is to return to Coffee and Clicks and Late Night Exposures refreshed and reinvigorated, hopefully in 2026, or even sooner if inspiration strikes. Sometimes, when something you love no longer feels fun, the best thing you can do is take a break.

Here’s to a creative 2025, filled with new discoveries and renewed passion. I look forward to sharing this journey with you in new ways.
