Rekindle: A Year of Rediscovery in Photography

Rekindle: A Year of Rediscovery in Photography

Every year, I choose a word that will shape my photography and serve as a guiding force for my creative journey. For 2025, that word is rekindle. It holds a special significance for me this year because it’s about reigniting the spark and rediscovering the joy I once felt when I first picked up a camera. Photography has been my passion for years, but over time, the routine of day-to-day shooting and the demands of business can sometimes cause that initial excitement to fade into the background. This year, I want to bring that passion back into focus.

Rekindle means different things to different people. For me, it’s not just about reconnecting with the act of taking pictures—it’s about revisiting the core reasons why I started in the first place. It’s about reigniting the creative flame that fuels every photograph I take and breathing new life into the image-making process. I’ve spent so much time refining my craft, but now it’s time to strip things back and return to the essence of creativity.

In 2025, I want to focus on creativity and experimentation. Too often, we get caught in the technical side of photography, chasing after the perfect shot, perfect gear, and the perfect edit. While these things matter, I believe the true magic happens when you let go of expectations and allow your imagination to take the lead. This year, I want to embrace that freedom and give myself the space to experiment—whether that means trying new techniques, exploring unfamiliar styles, or even stepping away from my usual subjects. I want to step out of my comfort zone and take risks with my photography, without worrying too much about the outcome.

A significant part of this creative journey will also involve writing. I’m thrilled to be diving deeper into writing for Fstoppers in 2025. Photography has always been a way for me to express myself, but writing allows me to explore those ideas and experiences from a different perspective. Through writing, I’ll have the chance to share the stories behind the images and the creative processes that bring them to life. I’m excited to use my writing to connect with others in the photography community and beyond, sparking conversations about the artistic side of image-making and offering insights into the way I approach my craft.

But this year won’t just be about new projects and writing. It will also be about reflection and growth. I want to focus on the process of making images, not just the results. Too often, I’ve been caught up in the pressure of creating something “great.” In 2025, I want to take a step back and enjoy the journey. I want to experiment without the pressure of perfection, explore new ideas without worrying about their commercial viability. It’s about finding beauty in the unexpected and embracing the art of discovery.

There’s a freedom in simplicity. The complexity of the world can sometimes drown out the quiet moments of creativity, so this year, I plan to keep things simple—focusing on the fundamental aspects of photography and how they make me feel. The goal is not to complicate things, but rather to reconnect with the pure essence of why I became a photographer in the first place: the joy of capturing moments, telling stories, and expressing myself through the lens.

In 2025, I envision myself diving into one or two photography projects that allow me to explore the heart of my creative process. These projects will not just be about making beautiful images; they’ll be about pushing my boundaries and experimenting with new ways of thinking. The projects may evolve over the course of the year, taking unexpected turns and allowing me to embrace the unpredictable nature of art.

I’m excited to rekindle that initial spark—the excitement I felt when I first began to see the world through the lens, when every shot felt like a discovery. This year will be a return to the roots of creativity, a journey of exploration and growth. It’s about rediscovering the excitement of making images, embracing new challenges, and telling stories that resonate. And in the end, it’s about remembering why I fell in love with photography in the first place.

2025 is going to be a year of reinvention, of reigniting that creative fire, and of pushing the boundaries of what I can create. I’m ready to take the leap—without fear, without hesitation—and I hope you’ll come along for the ride. Together, let’s rekindle the joy of creation.
